The owners and operators of the Baccarat Casino, in Edmont, Canada, are determined to expand the gambling facility. However, city councilors are not convinced about the expansion being a good idea. This week, they voted to delay the sale of a terrain to the casino until they see the development plans.
The piece of land, situated in the northwest corner of the Casino parking lot, belongs to the city and its administrators have recommended its sale to the Baccarat owners for $1.9 million.
“Selling Baccarat the land would be playing into the casino’s hands, and would encourage expansion of the casino on the site,” Councilor Ron Hayter told the Transportation and Public Works Committee.
“With the new high-rise apartments now planned for that area, the era of casinos on 104th Street downtown may have passed,” Councilor Michael Phair added.
