The Belgium Justice rejected last Friday the appeal from a group of clubs and soccer players (Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham, among others), against the usage without permission of their image by gambling companies.

The players and the clubs (Port, Juventus and PSV Eindoven, besides de Madrilenian team), considered that the usage of their names and pictures on the pages of gambling Internet sites was purely promotional and could not have been done without their consentient or remuneration.

The Belgium press points out that, the way the Court failed rejected the appeal, resulting the betting societies to be right. “The usage of this image doesn’t have a commercial objective, it is an application of the right to inform”, explained one of the lawyers of the accused companies.

“In order to play with acknowledging the cause it is needed for the person that bets to have access to every needed information, that can also include pictures”, he added.

The players and clubs could appeal the decision.
